Fishing on the Kamchatka Peninsula in many ways is reflective of the seasonal changes in Alaska. We spend the majority of our time fishing for trophy Rainbows Trout. We also have other species available as outlined below. We want you to get the most out of your trip to Kamchatka.
July – This is the time to really concentrate on mouse fishing at any of our programs. Mouse fishing does work later in the season it is predicated on clear weather. During July we will see caddis hatches on all rivers. The salmon will run late in the month.
Ozernaya River Lodge will offer great King fishing the first few weeks of the season. As we transition to late July the Dolly Varden will come into the OZ straight from the sea. We are able to rack up huge numbers of these chrome battlers.
Two Yurt River Float offers some of the best mousing on Kamchatka. Just coming off of the biggest caddis hatch on the peninsula every trout in Two Yurt is looking up. This is when we hear the stories of 100 fish days on mice patterns few if any eggs floating in the river.
Rainbows from Above is targeting big surface feeding rainbows at more than a dozen watersheds on both coasts of the Peninsula.
August – All the rivers are the most full of different species of fish this month with big runs of salmon in all of the systems. That said we never fish bead/indictor rigs as it is counter productive to catching our primary species, trophy Rainbows.
Ozernaya River Lodge has the silvers entering the river by the second week of August. Kings and Chums are spawning and many of the biggest trout of the season are laying shallow. Spawning beds are easy to target and the big trout available in big numbers. The trout will smash a mouse or streamer without resorting to beads. This is also the time we start to fish the larger tributaries of the OZ. Each of these offers everything from big rainbows to prolific silvers in small water.
Two Yurt River Float is on fire this month. We float the headwaters of the system right over where all of the rainbows from the lower Two Yurt, Yelovka and some Kamchatka River trout end up for the summers feast. Like the Oz we fish only mice and streamer patterns.
Rainbows From Above has seen some new rivers by this time of the season and we have exact waypoints on rivers and locations that will be fishing great.
You can also book for next year and get a head start on the competition. By booking early, you are assured that the particular species you want to target will be in abundance when you arrive!
